 Tony,
I have been trying to get my "rattle" cured for years now. I have
installed a new bushing and new o-rings. Still rattles. The only way i have
been able to get it to stop is to pack the whole area with grease. that
lasted for 2 years.
After you remove the knob, are the 3 bolts you remove viewable from under
the car, or do you have to remove the shift boot to get at them?
 thanks,

First of all take a look at the article I referenced. Did you verify the
bushing was free? You should be able to push it out with your finger.
Either way, it should be greased. Mine was frozen solid and fashioning a
puller with a bolt as described in the article resulted in a broken bolt.
What I did was remove the lower boot (under the car) and the shift knob (just
pulls off), unbolt the screw at the bottom of the shift lever. Then you will
see three small bolts which hold the housing to the transmission tunnel.
You will need an extension and a rachet. 11mm, I think. Once you unbolt the
3 bolts, pull the housing and shift lever down and out as 1 unit. Then I
drilled out the old bushing and got a new one from Alfa and slid it in,
greased it and put it back in the car. I used a new bolt and nylock to hold
the bottem of the lever to the transmission arm. Works easy as pie now!

Let me know if you need more help.
