Bruce,

Without knowing how the garage is constructed I am first (as an
Architect) concerned not so much about the hardware but the structure
you want to attach the hardware to!!

Typical garage construction will not adequately help with your project.
You will have to beef up (technical term here) the structure to be able
to use it as you describe.
