I can't speak for other groups but in the circles I Move in (gauge #1
live steam trains) Mentholated spirits are ethyl alcohol denatured with
methyl alcohol.  methanol is methyl alcohol. Denatured alcohol is ethyl
alcohol with anything poisonous added to make it unpotable.

In the USA it is illegal to sell methyl alcohol  as a gas additive unless
it is buffered with a equal amount of n-butonol so gas line antifreeze is
isopropyl alcohol,  and because methyl alcohol is so polar washer
solvents are usually isopropyl alcohol also.

Admittedly this is largely superfluous twaddle so I hope you don't try to
wash my mouth out with "bug wash"
