Sorry I didn't pipe up about this sooner... My local hardware store had 6mm 
threaded stock (in approx. 2' lengths)! I ended up with leftovers and it was 
cheap! Gave a set to the local alfa mechanics... they had two shorter bolts 
welded together at the heads
