Fastening a Spider Medallion

My daughter, bless her heart, just gave me a replacement medallion for the 
rubber spoiler on my 86 Spider. Two questions:

  - Do I just pull the old one off, or is their some special trick to avoid 
damaging the spoiler?

  - Should I use some kind of glue to hold it on? The narrow adhesive strip 
on the medallion looks a bit lame to me. Not sure I can trust it to hold.

The sooner I get it installed, the sooner she will know how much it means to 
me that she would think of my Alfa.
