Value of '71 GTV

Marc Baldwin writes:

Anybody know how many 1971 GTVs there are in the US? I need the number
to
argue the distinction between 1971 GTVs and others, which we all know
are
less desirable. : ).
My insurance company (Nationwide) has a preliminary estimate on the
value of
a 1971 GTV in the United States: $3,500!! Yeh, right. All 1971 GTV
owners
are hereby offered a whopping $3,600 for your cars. I think you will
agree
I'm making a generous offer.
Wonder if the two I saw in Hemmings for $9,500 and $10,000 will take
$3,500?

Marc, this might not fully satisfy, but is a heck of a lot better than
what you have been offered. First, I'd argue loudly that Kelly Blue Book
folk know diddly about collector cars. Then get a hold of the current
Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide. Keith Martin (the owner) is quoted
frequently in both Road & Track and AutoWeek regarding collector car
prices. I also believe the Wall Street Journal also print his comments
and figures.

First I want to quote from the book: "The Price Guide values are set by
sales activity, as well as conversations with owners, dealers and
collectors."

Doubt if Kelly can say that.

Sorry, but they 'lump' Your '71 GTV in with the '70 to 74's. Range:
$7,500 to $9,500 for very good to excellent examples. They claim 37,459
as the total made for these cars (John Hertzman, get out your
calculator).

I also want to say they mention that should a car be priced higher than
their figures it doesn't necessarily mean it is overpriced.

Good luck,
