Oscar,

Here are some methods I learned at Fel-Pro. To remove the old gasket pieces 
use a single edged razor blade, a sharp putty knife or a gasket scraper. Keep 
a very low angle of attack. Work circumferentially NOT radially to avoid 
creating leak paths. After you are done removing the pieces try lightly 
cleaning with an old, almost worn-out Scotch Brite pad lubed with WD-40.
