No, this doesn't involve putting your name in the list and adding stars
and mailing it around. Ahem. :-)
We've had a few rainy days here lately, and on the first clear one after
the storms I was motoring to work in the '74 Spider, top down, enjoying
the relatively open freeway on my 10-mile commute.
And I started thinking... I've had this car for just under six months,
and a quick look at the odometer pointed out that I've put just about
7000 miles on it. Well, a little quick math says that this means I've
put on about 1200 miles a month, or close enough. I drive about 100
miles per week to get to/from work, so let's say I spend 400 miles every
month commuting.
That leaves 800 miles a month for "other" -- tours, club meets, the
Italian Car Day, the Historics, taking my kids out for ice cream, etc.
And it hit me that this is a good metric for quality of life, at least
life behind the wheel: the ratio of total miles to commuting miles,
which for me is 2:1. Not bad. :-)
And of course, on the heels of that figure, it hit me that in the Alfa,
every mile qualifies as pleasure driving.
