Emmo makes a good point about the wiring.  I recently had a guy follow me 
home.  He was a new owner of a '74 gtv, saw me drive by in my '74 gtv, and 
wanted to talk cars.  He previously owned a '69 and a '71 gtv and asked about 
swapping dashes. I told him it was a project not for the faint of heart.

Later, I was talking to my friend in Houston about doing the swap.  He 
reminded me that the earlier dashes didn't have major connectors (can someone 
confirm) and instead relied on single wire connections.... lots of them.

So, Emmo's point is well taken.  Swapping an older style dash into a later 
car is probably a MAJOR undertaking.  Perhaps the best starting point... 
after all... is the '71.  I guess a lot of it depends on what your stock of 
spare bits looks like around your home :)

On a related note, after replacing my clutch a couple of weeks ago, my desire 
to ditch the '74 console is now stronger than ever.  Has anyone made a nice 
console to house the hvac controls and switches for a GTV?  I've seen Juniors 
(which have a nice, simple interior).  They mount the hvac controls right 
below the dash, horizontally, but I can't remember where the windshield wiper 
and fan switches were mounted.  Scott Fisher (or any other Junior owner), can 
you answer this question?

'74 gtv... just finished getting ready for lime rock next week!  
ps.  anyone else notice that porterfield R4S pads feel spongier than typical 
semi-metalics?  they seem to stop well, but the pedal feel is not as positive 
as it was.
