Gear lightening for transaxle cars

Has anyone had any experience with any of the procedures for lightened
gearboxes, such as those advertised by Merrit Camden? I know a gearbox rebuild
is inevitable and am wondering weather to do the gear lightening to reduce
future synchro wear and improve shifting. This was supposedly the "alfa corse"
solution in the racers.
