nuts under hood

I am hoping someone can help me identify the source of 2 nuts I found
under my hood yesterday.  I opened the hood to check fluids and next to
the rubber bumpers in the channel that the hood goes into were 2 nuts.
They were shaped like a crown.  I have not done any work in a while.  The
last work was when I had new springs, shocks, a-arm bushings, and control
arms installed.        _   _   _

The car is an 87 Spider.
Any help would be appreciated.
