The Unpopular Door

Last year, the first day that I had my GTV on the road after a lot of work
and a lot of money, a girl in a VW Jetta backed into my parked Alfa, putting
a sizable dent in the driver's side door. This past Saturday night,
somebody upped the stakes. I came home and found somebody ran a stop sign
and used my GTV driver's side door as an external brake. The car was pushed
against the curb, glass was everywhere, and the interior door panel has an
unsightly bulge. The person must not have had a pen or paper, because there
was no note left. I'm still waiting for somebody to show up at my door
insisting that they pay for the repairs and inconvenience. My insurance
company first said I was covered by the underinsured motorist clause in my
policy, and somebody else said they didn't think it covered hit and run.
That remains unresolved. The damage should be repairable, unless there was
some chassis twisting. Luckily, the hit was localized to the door, and the
rocker looks untouched. Hopefully tonight I'll be calm enough to finally
move the car from the driveway into the garage (aka intensive care). This
drives home the point of getting an agreed value policy from a specialist
insurer for your older Alfa.
