I don't know - but I do know that the "old" engine (that is still in TS f=
orm, balancing shafts, but no variable valve stuff) was very
well revered by British motoring journalists - Jeremy Clarkson (who I lik=
e, beceause he loves alfas), called it the best 2 litre
production engine on the road. In Top Gear a month or two back, he could=
n't see the point in buying an expensive Ferari when you coudl
get a 3 litre, 6 speed GTV for under =A330,000.
When I also questioned the TS arrangement a couple of weeks back, someone=
replied saying that there was a "proper" Alfa 2 litre and a
Fiat based imposter. heck, the guy probably prefers valves to transistor=
s in his hi fi. Anyway, I don't really care where my 4 yr old
TS engine came from - it is a beauty (but could do with more power/torque=
below 4000), but it would be interesting to have an accurate
geneology for the 2 litre history. I _suspect_ that the transistion from=
old Alfa to Fiat "imposter" happened a few years ago -
possibly after the 75 Milano/before the 155/164??
