Re: 101 Giulietta Exhaust Systems

To answer Peter Bartusek's request for info on 101 exhausts, the early
101 cast iron manifold had 2 flanges which mate to an exhaust system
with twin downpipes to the first silencer. The two flanges share 2
bolts, hence only 4 bolts used.
For info, the 101 1600 cast iron manifold was generally similar but
dispensed with the shared bolts & used 6 bolts.
An SS exhaust system is totally different at the front end. The normale
type cast iron manifolds are replaced by tubular steel manifolds which
extend to under the car, where they join to a flanged Y-piece before the
front silencer. The rest of the SS system (centre & rear silencer) is
generally as the normale type.
It should be possible to use an entire SS system, complete with SS
manifold, although care may be required in body clearance if Veloce type
engine mounts are not used.
Further exhaust info can be found on the Alfa Stop website,
www.alfastop.co.uk & in the current Giuliettaletta, the Giulietta
Register magazine.
