Spider dash cracking

I was wondering if anyone knew tha actual cause of the dashboards
cracking
on alfa spiders.
The dashboard on my 74 spider is in beautiful shape, and I'd like to
keep it
that way.
So if there is any way to do some preventive maintenance I'd be more
than
grateful if anyone could tell me.

The simplest way I have found to protect the dash is to use a dash
cover, like a "Dashmat"
