Alfa Return

As noted earlier, the best way to get Alfa back in the US is to keep an eye in
your newspapers for reports on trade meetings. Diplomats are at this very moment
hammering away at the trade barriers that prevent cross-certification of
european and US cars. Every time you see a story along these lines, CALLL YOUR
SENATOR and tell them you *support* lowering these barriers!

Once this occurrs, we will be back in the golden days of pre-1966, when all that
was really required to get a car from europe to the US was a boat big enough to
hold it. I imagine that it will lead to an absolute explosion of niche market
cars in both directions (can't wait to see reactions when a '02 Pontiac Trans-Am
shoots down the Autostrade). Privateers will be able to bring cars over in small
numbers and still make money, which, if successful, will probably lead to full
factory support in later years.

Then it won't MATTER if FIAT likes the US or not... it will be a straightforward
(albeit risky) business venture for some talented capitalist to build a series
of "boutique" dealerships that pretty much carry whatever you want to buy.

Again, keep an eye out and every time you hear talk about cross-certification,
start talking up the politicians. ALFISTI UNITE AND LOBBY! BECOME PART OF THE
SPECIAL-INTEREST PROBLEM! :)
