Ryan,

I can tell you by through experience that 231 is fine....meaning it's at the
2nd hash mark from 250. The red light is due to insufficient grounding by
the temp sensor at your water pump. Last summer I replaced everything in the
cooling system. I thought it still ran hot afterwards at 231, but in 104
temp w/ac that's where I've been at all summer in downtown stop and go
traffic!
