The chronology behind this suggestion is about right, but the requirement
for dual circuit brakes may not have been the driving force behind this
innovation.  The rule requiring dual circuit brakes was specific to the US
at that time, but Alfa's dual system seems to have been used on all the
early 1750s, regardless of the market they were destined for, and continued
on RHD cars, which were never officially imported to the US, through the
2000 series.
