tensioners again

Why is it that so few understand much about the tensioners that Alfa sells?
To begin with, the belts DO NOT STRETCH! They break first! Both types of
tensioner (do not include the Zat abortion) actually compensate for
temperature changes. The hydraulic unit relaxes the tension while the
engine runs but never enough to cause the belt to slip. (When properly
adjusted) The newer mechanical unit does have bi-metalic spring to handle
temperature changes. Notice the need to install at certain minimum ambient
temperatures? Doug, you've got it all wrong! Fred
