164L Engine Modifications

I've got the engine out of my '91 164L.  It's got a head gasket leak (oil
in the water) and suspect valve guides.

While I'm in the process of going through the engine, are there any
suggestions for minor performance improvements that I can build into the
rebuild?  It's mated up to an automatic tranny, which is also getting
replaced.
