Re: Cheaper Spica --> Carbs

Well, you could use a European Weber manifold instead of the adapto-plates
that are sold to convert the Spica manifold. You could buy new Del'orto
carbs
instead of Webers (used carburetors are generally a bad deal unless you
really
really know they're OK).

To go this route, you will also need a support rod that attaches to the left
motor mount, and supports the carbs. Add to your shopping list an injection
pump block off plate (the catalogs do sell these seperately), a pair of carb
mounting blocks, and air cleaners. Throttle linkage could be a challenge,
though the Alfa Ricambi catalog lists an adapter for this application
(p/n AL4337 Weber, AL4338 Del'orto).

As long as you can buy the manifold for a reasonable price, your total
cost (excluding compensation for the time you spend accumulating
all the bits and pieces) could run less than the $1,000 the complete
package costs. But, keep in mind that the carbs alone account for
most of that cost.
