re: Milano getting warmer

Jorge asked in AD #831:

" Somebody mentioned a recommended mixture of Redline WaterWetter, one
bottle, 15% Coolant, the rest water (distilled). Also, is it desireable
to
flush the system well first? Any recommendations out there?
thanks"

Redline WaterWetter is there to improve the cooling properties of the
water, it "sticks" to to the inside of the motor better. Bad analogy,
but close. As far as I have ascertained, it has no corrosion
inhibitors, will not change the thermal characteristics of water (rasie
the boiling point or lower the freezing point). I first found about it
as a race track alternative to better cooling, because convential
anitfreeze is not allowed on some tracks. It is too slippery when it
leaks out. About as bad as oil, f rom what I have heard (no actual
experience on the track, personally).

I would suggest a coolant that has corrosion inhibitors compatible with
aluminum motors., Should be most any of them at this point. The ratio
of coolant to water will depend on what you want it to do, and whose
brand of coolant you're talking about. The most common ratio is 50:50
water:coolant. Others may vary, so I can't speak for all.

Flushing the system first? Not a bad idea, as you would have a chance
to remove crud (the scientifically approved term) from the insie of the
motor and the radiator. Make sure you get a compound that is (again)
compatible with aluminum motors and motor parts. I have no personal
experience with these chemicals, so I cannot mnake a recommendation.

Good luck

The front Euro bumper on the 76 Alfetta GT is about mounted. Now onto
the back of the car. Then the GTV6 suspenders, and oh my - Watch out,
here I come.
