radar detector in old spider

Hi,
Have any of you had any experience hooking up a radar detector in a
seventies spider? Mine has that weird cigarette lighter where you put the
cigarette in the lighter and then depress the surrounding plastic ring.
Needless to say, this thing is useless for anything but lighting cigarettes,
and I don't smoke.
Some of you must have done this, judging by the thread that was going a
while ago about top speeds.
