Dropping Transmission

Having trouble removing bolt which connects the rear transmission support to
the crossbar underneath a 87 Spider. Seems that it won't back out far
enough to allow the crossbar to fall free. The head of the bolt doesn't
clear the end of the bar, into the recess stamped for this reason.

Any comments on why this is a problem? Any suggestions, short of destroying
the cross bar, for getting this mess apart?

Might be important to let you all know that the reason I'm dropping the
crossbar is that a PO must have run over something and mangled the bar. The
damage was at the other end of the bracket. The end of the bracket that the
bolt moves towards looks OK.

I guess I'm asking: Is removing the bolt which runs through the support
bushing normally a problem, or is this crossbar actually more screwed up
than it appears?

Thanks to all for your helpful responses!

Brad
