Spring equation.

Since Ian asked nicely...

c = G*d^4/(8*n*D^3)
where
c = spring rate
G = shear modulus of elasticity
d = diameter of wire
n = number of coils
D = diameter of spring.

So according to the equation, Graham Hilder is exactly correct.

One "issue" when replacing springs is the old compressed springs- when I
replaced the old ones on my GTV (which was adjusted for the ride height), I
used the only new springs available- spider ones, and the rear of the car
sits up really high... got to adjust it back down. So it is possible that
new stiff springs will set the car up higher.

Lets not get into the cut spring debate, whether it raises the car-- the
answer is- it depends.
