Hi all,
Thanks to lack of use Scarlet (78 Spider) has a stuck drivers side
caliper. I took it off and am about to blow out the pistons with an air
compressor. I have a rebuild kit which includes two dust caps and 4 flat
edged O-ring.
My understanding of the procedure is to remove the pistons,
Take off the old O-ring
Remove any rust (most likely cause of sticking) use 400 grit emery
cloth???
Install new O-ring (lubricate with brake fluid as needed)
lubricate everything with brake fluid and reassemble.
Am I missing anything? I am wary of this job, not for lack of skill but the
last time I tried this was in 1993 and the caliper didn't work after I was
done. I have always purchased rebuilt calipers since that attempt. However,
since then my experience level has grown and I wanted to give it another
whack. It is an ATE caliper if that makes a difference.
On another note, I tried searching the archives for info first but
there was no search engine that I could find. There are way too many
archives to search by sight. If there is a trick to searching the archives I
would appreciate someone filling me in.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Ed Gibbs
