More on Alfas built outside Italy



In 1987 Alfa Romeo Australia imported a grand total of
6 - count 'em, 6 - brand new spiders to sell in Oz.

These cars were, as far as I can recall, built in
Italy, but were then shipped to Belgium to be
converted to RHD for the Oz market. The basic equation
at that time was that a California emmissions engine
plus RHD = Oz compliance, although testing still
needed to be carried out. 

I believe that the RHD conversions were done in
Belgium for the British market ...

Each of these cars sold for around Aus$87K at the
time, with one being made available to each of the
states.
