Here's a suggestion for your dillema.  I hope it works.

First, use a nut driver (socket on a screw driver handle) to turn the nuts.
Then, with a screw driver, or suitable "pry bar," pry the nut away from the 
head as you turn it with the nut driver. 

You're likey on some stripped threads.  You need to get the nut to grab on 
some good ones to get it off.

After it's off, you should probably replace the studs.  Hopefully, they won't 
break off when you try to remove them, but be prepared for the worst.
