What part is breaking on the lock?

My 91 Spider has over 150,000 miles on it, the door locks were replaced once
at
about 3,000 miles because the lock for the truck cable broke. The door locks
are
orginal, they changed the door locks so they would all be keyed the same. I
use my
car daily and lock and unlock the drivers door probable4 an average of twice
a day
since January 19, 1991.

There is a small flap/sliding mechanism that covers the opening for the key,
if
its not there water can get in the lock and mess it up. Mine is not working
on the
drivers door, stays open all the time, I spray teflon lubricant into the lock
from
time to time and this keeps it lubricated and free.

These are simple locks and should be breaking. Lets hear what piece keeps
breaking.

Ralph,

The cylinder of the lock on the passenger side door completely comes out when
a key is inserted and twisted. I believe this not would indicate a problem
with the cable, as you suggested. On the driver's door, however, the small
plastic door that should slide out of the way is frozen in the closed
position. I've tried lubing it up, but I think it's more a problem with a
spring or something.

A few people have suggested not locking the car at all, which I have
considered. But when driving to a major city, it's alittle tough to not
worry about it vandalized.

Does anyone know if it's possible to have a keyless remote entry system
installed?
