Re: 105 plumbing

Subject: 105 plumbing

I just acquired a 1750 GTV that has been sitting for a long time. Some of
the radiator hoses are missing, and I need some help figuring out which
pieces are needed and how they're supposed to be connected. The car is a
1971 US model (105.51) that originally had SPICA iniezione, but currently
has a carbureted 1750 with Webers. I'm not sure whether this is an
original carbureted motor or a converted one: it has what appears to be a
factory intake manifold, the dipstick on the timing cover, and a cam cover
"dented" where the air intake is supposed to pass over.

I think you have a 1600 manifold and water pump. Do you have the thermostat
that screws into the manifold or a typical late model style.? My Mk1 1750
Euro GTV (68-69) has the 1600 style cross over air cleaner with the dip in
the cam cover. The lower radiator hose has a large metal 'T" in it, which
goes to the bypass port in the bottom of the manifold, below the thermostat.
Only one outlet on the manifold for the heater, the back has a big allen
plug. ,The 1600 manifold has two, and utilizes the metal tee fitting. The
water pump only has the one outlet for the water pump, which comes off
straight. The later carbed 1750 and 2 litre cars used the same intake
manifold and heater hose config, but used the the later style water pump,
which had the heater hose outlet, the bypass hose and the lower rad hose(one
piece) The later carb bypass hose kinks around behind the distributor. BTW,
you're not confusing the fitting for the vaccum hose to the booster with a
heater outlet are you? Saw somebody try to do that once!

Sounds like all you need is the "T" fitting for the heater hose and you'll
be in business. I have seen some late style carbed manifolds that have had
the bypass port tapped and plugged...guess they couldn't find the proper
hose.
