For bleeding the cooling system this is what I do. Same as you up until
coolant comes out the intake manifold, then that gets closed. Fill the rad
untill you can see coolant, fire up the car with the heater control in hot.
What you have to wait for now is for the thermostat to open up, so I
usually play with the throttle, watch for leaks and keep the coolant in the
rad in sight. You will know when the thermostat opens up because the top
hose will get HOT and you may see bubbles in the rad. Stand there until you
are happy there is no more air in the system. At some point the water is
going to start expanding faster than the air bubbles replace it, all I do
is place the palm of my hand over the rad opening and give the top hose a
good squeeze to send coolant into the expansion tank. Release hand and hose
somewhat simultaneously but hand first.
