Race report- SVRA Easter in Savannah

Spring has sprung with the Easter weekend vintage races in Savannah,
Georgia. Roebling Road, a fast two mile nine-turn relatively flat track
hosted the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association's season opener. Seven
cars of italian extraction were represented as part of the Krause &
England stable. Krause & England is a racing preparation and service
facility limiting their practice to cars of italian lineage, including
"etceterini's" such as Fiat-Abarth and Siata as well as the mainstay
Alfa Romeo and Ferrari marques.

In the small car race, Bob Kullas of Avon, Connecticut drove his very
rapid Giulietta Spider Veloce to fifth overall, second in class out of
over forty entries, Hugh Tompkins of Bethesda, Maryland ran quite well
in his exquisite 750 series Giulietta Sprint Veloce finished in "Riviera
Blue", posting a personal best time almost two and a half seconds
quicker than his previous best last October at this track. Charlie Wiell
took his brand new Fiat 850 Spider to a class pole and win in it's
inaugural outing, surprising a lot of much bigger cars! His dice with a
Formula Vee and Max Rubin's 950 Turner was exciting to watch. Lynne
Alexander took second in class in qualifying in her burgundy car, again
over two and a half seconds better than her previous best but suffered
mechanical problems and retired from the race halfway through. Nick
England took the runner up in class with his Fiat 850 Spider filling out
the trio of 850's humbling the Bugeyes.

In the medium bore production car race, the 1608 cc 124 Spider of Peter
Krause qualified ninth overall, first in class out of forty entries. In
the race, Krause battled successfully past a couple of cars and with the
good fortune of some mechanical falterings and a Porsche conveniently
spinning out of the way, finished fourth overall, first in class. Ceasar
Cone in his 1570 cc Duetto, suffered a burned piston and dropped out
after battling for the final podium position. All in all, a successful
event. The next race is at the Oceana Naval Air Station April 23, 24 and
25 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Looking forward to everyone coming out!
