Actually, Alfa Romeo builds plenty of cars that are quite reasonably
priced and sell comparably to the BMWs, Audis, Volvos, Lexus, etc etc that
are all over the place in the SF Bay Area. Even the top line 164s were not
out of the middle price ranges for the above marques, and we in the US
didn't get the less expensive versions and many of the more popularly
priced cars. 

I figure that if they brought in a 156 2.0TS or 2.5V6, they'd probably
sell in the $32-42K range. That's easily within the price range of most of
the people I know who are looking for something beyond the economy line
car these days. Remember that a Mazda Miata averages somewhere around
$25-26K out the door now.
