1750 GTV Questions

Evan

I'll pretend that your Alfa doesn't share a garage with that other car and
answer your questions....

1. The self-park may have stopped working because the copper contact is no
longer contacting the rubbing strip, that is, if you are still getting
voltage to the motor at the proper place. Remove motor and take off the
plate on which the wires are soldered. To remove motor:
remove wiper arms. Undo large nuts on the spindles. These nuts tighten onto
some large washers that hold the wiper panel. Open hood/bonnet and undo the
4 Phillips screws in the gutter. Now pull off the wiper panel up and
forward from under the windscreen rubber. Remove wiper mechanism complete
with motor (4 x 13 mm bolts). Note the position o9f the small actuating arm
from the motor to the mechanism before undoing the 10 mm nut and the 3
other 10 mm bolts to free the wiper motor.
Once you've identified which wire carries the current for the self park -
its the rubbing strip with the break in it - you can see whether repair is
needed inside or to the external circuit.

2. The 3 switches have identifying drawings on them. Left is wiper, middle
instrument lights, right heater ... but you knew that!

3. Have them stripped and powder coated professionally. You can get the
original colour coating no sweat.

4. Hope Oz isn't as bad as NZ. Here we have to really search otherwise we
get junk belts fitted by the "specialists". These "approved" belts are less
than 2" wide and in my opinion totally unsafe.
