Re: Cooked Coolant(??) and Kissed Pistons

One small comment about the v6 which has had valve-to-piston
contact, which may be redundant:

You can check for bent valves by removing the heads,
removing the cams so that all valves are closed, turning
the head upside down (and level). Then pour gasoline
or kerosene into each combustion chamber and see if
you have leakage out through the valves.

Admittedly, this is not a good test if the head is in
need of a valve job anyhow. Either a bent valve
or a leaky valve will be obvious. And either case
is just cause for some valve work.

Another way to specifically look for bent valves is to lap
the valves to their seats. A bent valve would show lapping
contact only in one place on its seating surface.

Good luck,
