Alfetta Euro Bumpers

In AD7-543 Brian Beckham, whose email address Gtv6owner@domain.elided suggests he
has a GTV-6, is looking for a Euro bumper for an Alfetta- very reasonable
thing to look for, one I may look for, and one others may want to consider.

But, quibble, if drawing on Eurosources one may want to be more specific. The
Alfetta is the sedan, the Alfetta GT is the coupe, and I doubt Brian wants
sedan bumpers. The first series Alfetta bumpers were (like door handles) very
similar in appearance to those on the 105/115 Berlinas, while the first series
Alfetta GT (which became the GTV) had a recessed black band (paint only, I
believe) between upper and lower faces (stainless, I believe). The second
series Alfettas, the Alfetta 2000 in Europe and the base of our Sport Sedan,
had black wraparound ends (similar to the US GTV6) and a black face strip but
with the parking/directional lights set into the bumper between the face strip
and the end pieces, all much lighter and cleaner than the US Sport Sedan. A
final series around 1983 got more massive ends and fussier detailing to go
with the new plastic cladding of the lower doors. The second series Alfetta GT
and GTV-6 had a bumper similar in form to the USA GTV-6 but lighter and far
less fussy, a one-piece pressing with rubber face and with inset
parking/directional lights, apparently bodycolor in early versions and black
later.

All of the USA versions had different mounts to fit the collapsing shock
absorbers, so none of the Eurobumpers are bolt-on; how serious the surgery is
I don't know, but it could add up. I doubt very many are in the States: I have
assumed that an amiable and resourceful Eurodigestisti might be able to serve
as an intermediary with a breaker's yard if the new price from the usual
Eurosources seemed unaffordable. DeFatta Brothers in Maryland have daily telex
contact with their sources in Italy, and might be worth contacting.

Cordially,

John H.
