Leaking front tranny seal

I have a leaking front transmission seal on my '87 alfa spider and am not
ready to drop the entire unit yet to replace it.

Has anyone tried using the STP product (or any others) which swells seals to
reduce these types of leaks as a temporary measure prior to repair?

The product I was looking at is for engines.  But thought that oil is in the
tranny (as opposed to ATF) so that this product may work.  I was also going
to use the appropriate amount for the quantity of oil in the tranny compared
to 5 or so quarts in a "typical" engine.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
