exhaust gaskets Spider

I am in the process of replacing the exhaust headers on my '74. The 
gaskets sent me by Alfa-Parts are copper. The ones on the car appear to 
be steel.

Is copper OK. or is there a reason for the steel ones?

I will now complete the removal (in the garage) and then come back up 
here to read your incredibly prompt advice!
