My GTV began doing the same thing after I replaced the original 1750 diff with
an LSD from one of the 2000's.

I believe that it is the result of a slightly too long drive shaft.  When you
hit a very sharp bump straight on, the slip joint compresses as much as
possible, and when that is not enough, the rear axle continues its upward
motion and takes the drive shaft with it, slapping the center support into the
body.
