Re: "What is the Alfasud called in the USA?"

David

I was under the impression that the Sud had been prepared
for sale in the USA, and had been homologated, but the plan
was cancelled when Alfa decided that they should only sell
overtly sporting cars. Thus the Sud import plans folded along
with the imports of the Alfetta and the plans for the
Alfa 6.

The Sud engine (in the 33) managed to pass many emmisions
regulations over the years. Late 33 engines with catalytic
converters had different 4-1 sections, very similar in basic
design to the Ansa Sud systems. I think 33's first became
available with fuel injection and catalysts in 1987 / 8 in =

some markets (Sweden / Australia / Switzerland).

Would the Sud have sold? I don't know, but by 1980 it was =

already on the downward slope. I think 1979 was Alfa's and
the Suds best year in the UK.

Oh, and to add to the list of odd cars that had inboard
disk brakes, I think both the Citroen 2Cv and some
versions of the Lotus Esprit had inboard disks at =

the front.

All the best

Keith
