1932, 8C-2300 Pinin Farina Cabriolet to be Auctioned

A report in a British news paper today describes the surprise of a widow
who's husband brought her an 8C-2300 for her wedding/honeymoon in 1956, f=
or
=A3100, and is celebrating the fact that it is likely to fetch around =A3=
450,000
at auction in April. The 1932 'rakish, blood red Alfa Romeo' was chosen o=
ver
a 'sensible' Ford Popular, by Brian Eckersley, who was a 21 year old chim=
ney
sweep at the time. It has sat unused in the couples garage for the last 2=
5
years. Apparently, they used it to go on honeymoon in 1956, and took it t=
o
Cornwall in the UK, being very surprised at the bad fuel consumption!.

The car is thought to be one of only 30 long wheel base chassis, only 5 o=
f
which were cabriolet bodied, this example by Pinin Farina.

If you have the spare cash, the auction is scheduled for April 14th, and
will be held by Brooks in London. I will almost certainly go along (not t=
o
buy!) as this is undoubtedly a very rare car, well worth a viewing, and w=
ill
post details to the digest in due course. Hopefully I can get some photos=
 on
my web site.

Ciao,

Ian
