I'm curious about valve timing specifications for the A-R 2000 motors. I
don't have a full listing and have been trying to assemble one. I have
the two CarDisk collections for the '75-81 and '82-'89 series Spiders. I
was able to find the following info so far:
- -----------------------------------------------------------
Alfa Romeo 2000 USA engines - cam timing specs
- -----------------------------------------------------------
Intake Intake Exhaust Exhaust
Open Close Open Close
BTDC ABDC BBDC ATDC Notes
-------------------------------------------------
1982-5 24* 34' 80* 34' 63* 54' 27* 54' static, at revs +10
degrees
1980-81 ????
1978-9 33* 54' 57* 54' 51* 14' 27* 14'
1976-7 21* 54' 69* 54' 63* 14' 15* 14'
1972-5 ????
- -----------------------------------------------------------
Somehow, the inclusion of minutes in the listing seems a bit of hubris...
Doesn't the vernier in the cam drive allow 1/3 degree accuracy max?
The '82 has the VCT system on the intake cam -- I think this advances the
cam 10 degrees at rpm above 1800 or so, and I believe the values above
are the static ones from the '82-85 engine manuals which is why I put the
note in there. If anyone has more exhaustive notes, particularly
including the early '70s and european issue cars, I'd love to know what
the differences are.
So the question is, what cams would be usable in the '82 Bosch L-Jetronic
motor and still meet the California emissions requirements? I believe the
pistons going in will raise the compression ratio to about 10:1 and I
know that will meet the CA cert without problems, I'm curious as to what
more could be gotten from it with a cam swap.
Thanks for any info!
Godfrey
