Why not replace the rear antenna with another in-car antenna on the front
windshield?  Bosch and Harada makes em, they are amplified dipoles which are
invisible (I have mine where the dark strip starts, at the very top edge of
the front windscreen).   Works well enough (not as good as a pole) and it
won't have a problem with the rear defroster.  Plus you don't have the pesky
wind whistle and drag...
