Driving with both feet

The ado sited below might think it ironic if not totally absurd; however,
the *only* advantage I have ever found to an automatic transmissiomn is
that one is able to drive with both feet - i.e., left foot brake.

I am reminded of a time when I was teaching in a brand new high school -
this was before I had lost the courage to teach and ran away - and provoked
the idea of planting some trees with the "help" of students.  It was then
that I encountered a student who had no idea whatever how to use a rake.
She held the thing in her hands as if it were a convoluting and menacing
snake.  It was truly amazing.  ( My apologizes if I told you that one
before)

Quite seriously, there is something menacing and convoluted in Jay's story.
That a human being, especially a USAian teenage female in 1999, should find
a manual transmission to be an insurmountable and weird "mistake" fills me
with despair.

And now I really reveal my prejudices :  the young lady referred to in
Jay's tragicomedy, is she from Antelope Valley by any chance?

What are we doing to our children ???!!!  ( comment reserved re the GR )

No trick to it at all.  Ride, drive, experience what an Alfa is.  End result?
How did we ever manage for long with so few!!

Yeah, that line and a buck will get you a cup of coffee.  I am trying to get
my GF to understand that a manual transmission is a do-able thing.  I was
driving her daughter (just at driving age) and the comment was like, "Oh my
god, Mom was right.  You do drive with both feet!!"

Whatcha gonna do?
