164 fuel door problem

The release for the fuel door is not working on my 91 164.  I have checked
the obvious and I'm hoping someone can offer some areas, other than fuses,
to check.   My car has never displayed any of the annoying problems so often
posted here so now I feel like I really belong to the club.  If I can't fix
the switch maybe Bill can let me know how he got his (fuel door) to fall
off.
