2 liter Euro thermostat

A net-challenged friend is converting his '76 2-liter Spider from Spica to
Webers and he's run into a couple of problems. He's using a European 2-liter
carburetor manifold, which bolts up to the engine just fine, but there are a
couple of detail differences.

This manifold apparently uses a different thermostat, probably a two-stage
one. There's a bypass hole which connects through a hose about 3/4" in
diameter to the water pump. The hole apparently gets blocked by the thermostat
once the engine is up to temperature.

Can anyone tell me whether the thermostat for this manifold is actually a two-
stage design? A Jag mechanic friend has a similar unit with a spring-loaded
disk attached to the thermo's moving part. Unfortunately, this one won't work
because the dimensions are a little off.

We also need to locate the bypass hose that attaches the thermostat housing to
the water pump. It has several sharp turns and will be hard to substitute.
We're also wondering if there is supposed to be a restriction orifice in the
bypass hose.

One more problem: the Euro manifold has no relief for the thermostat flange to
sit in. The thermostat outlet (the piece that holds the thermo in place and
has the radiator hose attached to it) we have is from a Spica manifold setup
and has no relief either. Thus the problem: there's no place for the
thermostat flange to sit without cobbling up some extra-thick gasket. Is there
a different outlet piece for the Euro carburetor setup?

My friend got into this situation because he didn't like the typical Spica-to-
Weber conversion hardware; he'd really like to get the correct parts to do
this job right. Any help with facts and/or sources for the correct parts will
be appreciated.
