Guibo Malaise

Caxambu,

Presumably, you have the original (and now 6 new, identical) bolts. You also
have the original, correct '69 donut (despite its tattered condition). You
have played with the parts and you have determined that the bolts slide freely
into the metal slaeeves in the guibo coupling. From what I understand, the
bolts slide all the way into the old donut. They do not, however, slide all
the way into the new one. In fact, they jamb as soon as you get to the end of
the threaded section (which is a smaller diameter).

Sounds like you got a donut/guibo for a different application. Convince
yourself further by measuring. Calipers will confirm whether the original
bolts are a larger diameter than the holes. These things come in a variety of
sizes. Do not drill out the sleeves. The bolts should be snug, but an
interference fit is unacceptable. Aftermarket parts are of variable quality
and I have on occasion had to "help" one of the bolts past a tight place, but
if none of the six will slide in, replace he part. The original seems to have
lasted 30 years, so it sounds like its worth looking for an expensive euro,
original...

...only $0.02 worth.
