sliding blocks and filler plugs

In AD7-398 Taiju Kobayashi, who races a GTV with an Autodelta sliding block in
Japan, remarks "One disadvantage not yet mentioned is hard to have access to
diff oil plug". Earlier in AD7-397 Peter Krause, writing about the Autodelta
sliding block on the magnificent Duetto he runs, wrote "The pin that protrudes
from what used to be the filler plug is where the brass block (secured by a
washer and a circlip) rides-"

For those not familiar with what they are talking about, the recently
republished and annotated (by Don Black) CRH, (currently sold-out but one
hopes to see another edition presently) states that "it is recommended that a
new special diff. center section be used as these have a reinforced plate for
the pivot stud. However, a less suitable conversion can be made by screwing
the pivot pin into the oil filler hole. A detail sheet shows the new filler
hole location." Group 3A p.7 in the CRH shows, among other things, the
optional differential housing 10532.17.014.99 (probably not in stock locally)
while the following page details the "Relocation of oil filter (sic) and oil
level hole in side of diff. center section." when screwing the pin into the
original filler hole, eliminating the problem Taiju Kobayashi refers to. The
nylon sliding plates he mentions sound like a very desirable update.

Cordially,

John H.
