Tachometer Diagnostics

I have an '84 Spider 2.0 with a non-functional tach, been that way since
I bought the car several months back.  I have reviewed the CarDisk
covering this model and cannot find any section that explains the
operation of this electronic tach.

What is the signal's source?  What is the diagnostic logic?  Where are
the test points and what are the nornal findings?  If components are
found to be faulty, what are sources?

Sure would like to have this thing working correctly.
