Terry,

Just a thought about the problems you had with stripping and
powder-coating your wheels.  I believe the old Turbina wheels had some
magnesium in them, could this have been reacting with the atmosphere to
create the black spots?  I believe magnesium is much more reactive than
most metals, and it would make sense that it oxidizes quickly.

Just my $0.02.  The longer I spend here in business school, the less
engineering I remember... sigh...
